Women’s Ski Jumping USA Returns to its Roots

Women’s Ski Jumping USA, founded in 2003 to provide U.S. Women Ski Jumpers with the financial support to train, travel, and compete at the highest levels within the USA and the World, is returning to its roots.

For a period of time, WSJUSA was also overseeing day-to-day team operations.  Over the past few years, that oversight has been transitioned to partner organizations, which diluted the overall feeling of “team.”

USA Nordic Sport has requested to have all US Women’s Ski Jumping team operations (including coaching, travel, training, PR and equipment innovation) move underneath the umbrella of USA Nordic – and the athletes have a passion to join this team.  This will create a unified organization that represents Nordic ski jumping and Nordic combined for our US athletes.

“Being an American ski jumper isn’t easy, so to work together overseas can only bring us strength of unity,” said WSJ USA athlete and 2013 World Champion Sarah Hendrickson. “The community in ski jumping and Nordic combined in the states is a small family. It only makes sense to work together as we fight for equality across the sport. Sharing coaches and plans makes sense from all aspects and it excites me for the future.”

As these sports continue to move towards gender equality, USANS will act as a single voice to ensure both men and women will have the support they need to compete at the highest levels.

WSJUSA will continue to provide U.S. Women Ski Jumpers with financial support through fundraising and grant opportunities; facilitating development efforts that produce the best women ski jumpers in the world, with an emphasis on Character, Confidence, and Courage – and aims to remain an influential voice in advocating for gender equality in sport.

Women’s Ski Jumping USA Founder, Peter Jerome said:  “This is clearly the logical next step for the women jumpers.  It is my hope that the athletes and staff will be able to capitalize on the significant accomplishments of both organizations in recent years and work closely with the US Ski and Snowboard Association with the goal of developing and fielding best-in-the-world athletes in Nordic ski jumping and Nordic combined.”
