Subject: Results from Survey about last year's meeting and ideas for 2016 Meeting
Date: March 28th 2016
All:
Here is my report on the survey about your thoughts on the Fed Meetings 2015 and 2016:

Eastern Councils Representative:
To circumvent the difficulty of coordinating a call during ski season, Eastern Councils were sent an online survey (Survey Monkey) to 1) give feedback on the 2015 Meeting presentations and 2)make suggestions for topics for the 2016 Meeting.
Councils*
Blue Ridge
Crescent
Connecticut
Florida
EICSL
Eastern PA
NJ
New York Capital
New Your Metro

*Note: Survey Monkey does not automatically identify participants by their email address.  Responses were received from 9 members of the Eastern Councils.  Any future surveys will ask respondents to identify themselves.

Review of  NSCF Meeting

  • Friday Presentations

Most useful:
  • How to grow Skiers/Boarders from grassroots levels, benefits of feeder resorts and how to get involved
  • Ski and binding technology
  • Pros and cons of bringing your own skis

Least Useful:
  • What resorts are doing for Plan B if conditions are bad
  • Promotion of Summer Activities

  • Leadership Breakout Sessions

  • Both of Leadership breakout sessions were seen as more useful than any of the prior presentations
  • Both topics were considered equally useful

Suggestions for NSCF 2016 Meeting Agenda

2 types of survey questioning were used to get the input.  First, respondents were asked open-ended questions to describe specific topics they would like to see on the agenda.  Secondly they were given a list of general topics and asked to pick ones of interest to them. (Note: It was done in this order to avoid biasing their “top of mind responses” with the general categories contained in the list)

For the purposes of this report, the general categories selected from the list are cited first to show the correlation between the general categories with the topics actually suggested.

  • General Topics

Most Interest
  • Conditioning for skiing
  • Promoting Club Trips
  • Changing up Council/Club Ski Trips (Thinking outside of the box)
  • Raising Funds for Club Activities
  • How different Councils function

Least Interest
  • Social Media
  • Marketing Practices

  • Topics; from Industry Partners (exact responses)

  • What needs to be done to 'lock in' air fare at the earliest possible date?

  • Why resorts still want our business and if they do, how much so?

  • The advantages of a 501 (c) 7 and the differences to a 501 (c) 3.

  • An honest evaluation of our marketing needs -- is it to go after the young and poor, or the empty nesters who have the money to ski and miss skiing with their kids, their group?

  • A presentation with information on the benefits of early season ski trips. History of snow depths in the early season; cost benefits of early season trips.

  • Air cost issues affecting trip signups; changes to ski areas; challenges they are facing overall.

  • What are they doing at getting beginners on the mountains. Do they support feeder mountains.

  • Ways to better communicate what is going on at the mountain with club members. Snow conditions and latest improvements to the mountain.

  • An inexpensive and quick way to ship skis

  • Topics for Brainstorming/Leadership Sessions (exact responses)

  • Building a business plan for YOUR club (not 'one size fits all')

  • Programs to handle the financing for all trips from the trip leader level to the club level and what ones are seamless with the Internet. Payment services: PayPal or has a club been successful in establishing a Merchant Account to process their own credit cards w/o using PayPal? And if so, how did they do it?

  • Benefits for clubs to belong to councils. Leadership information provided to clubs by councils.

  • How to attract younger prospective members, get them involved & retain them as members; how social media affects and benefits Clubs & Councils; fundraising ideas that work from the Councils.

  • I would like to see if we can do something on diet and exercise

  • Ways to improve working relationships within the clubs.

  • Scheduling future Conference Calls
    • Most Councils have their meetings either during first or second week of the month
    • Bestnight for a call: Wednesday, as no Councils responding have meetings on Wednesday.

Proposal for scheduling future conference calls:
Quarter 2:  Wednesday, May 18, 7 PM EST
Quarter 3:  Wednesday, August 17   7 PM EST  (before meeting the next week)
Quarter 4:   Wednesday, October 19   7 PM  EST  (recap the 2016 meeting)

Regards,
Michelle
