 Indy Pass Adds 12 Ski Areas, Including First in Eastern Canada. The Indy Pass has added 12 ski areas to its 2022-23 roster, including its first in eastern Canada, as well as three other Alpine partners, four cross-country resorts, and four Allied resorts. The additions bring the total number of participating resorts to 133. More. SAM

Snowriver (MI) to Install the Upper Peninsula’s Only High-Speed Chairlift. Snowriver Mountain Resort plans to install a new Doppelmayr six-passenger detachable chairlift for the 2023-24 season at the Jackson Creek Summit area of the resort. It will be the only high-speed chairlift in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, and the first six-pack. More. SAM

No-Frills Resorts Rise to the Top in Ski Magazine Reader Survey. The survey “points to the overall trend of people seeking out the non-corporate ski areas after a couple rough seasons at the mega resorts,“ wrote SKI. Winners in both the East and West remained the same, but further down the list notable shifts indicated the negative effects of some mega passes, and new appreciation for smaller, no-frills ski areas. Salt Lake City and County Governments Vote Against Proposed Little Cottonwood Canyon Gondola. The Salt Lake City Council became the latest government group to formally oppose the Little Cottonwood Canyon gondola, Utah Department of Transportation’s (UDOT) proposed solution to traffic congestion on the route that leads to Alta and Snowbird. Hours earlier, Salt Lake County officials also formally condemned the project. More. SAM

PGRI Closes on Jay Peak Acquisition. Pacific Group Resorts, Inc. has completed its purchase of Jay Peak, Vt., from court-appointed receiver Michael Goldberg six and a half years after entering receivership. PGRI expects the staff and winter operations at Jay Peak to remain largely unchanged from previous years. More. SAM

New York AG Files Antitrust Lawsuit Over Toggenburg Closure. New York Attorney General Letitia James has filed an antitrust lawsuit against Intermountain Management Inc. over Intermountain’s purchase and closure of Toggenburg Ski Area in 2021. James claims that Intermountain bought Toggenburg in August 2021 with the explicit intent to shutter the business and eliminate it as a competitor of the company’s other two properties, Song Mountain and Labrador. U.S. Ski & Snowboard and Outside Join Forces to Create North America’s Preeminent Snowsports Hub. In a move that links America’s snowsports governing body and the country’s largest creator of outdoor recreation media and services, U.S. Ski & Snowboard and Outside Interactive, Inc., have announced a long-term strategic partnership to create and broadcast snowsports content. U.S. Ski and Snowboard and NBC Sports extend partnership through to 2025. The new deal will see the American broadcaster show 19 hours of coverage of all eight domestic International Ski and Snowboard (FIS) World Cup competitions across several of its platforms, including live and tape-delay coverage on NBC, CNBC and Peacock. Vail Resorts Hires First Chief Public Affairs Officer. Vail Resorts has hired Kenny Thompson Jr. to serve as the company’s first chief public affairs officer, effective Dec. 5, 2022. In the newly created role, Thompson will oversee government relations, community relations, communications, sustainability, and the company’s social responsibility platform, EpicPromise. He will be part of the Vail Resorts executive team and report to CEO Kirsten Lynch. More. SAM
