After 28 Years of Snowboarding, Camp of Champions Has Closed

By |

After 28 years, Camp of Champions will declare bankruptcy and return payment to campers who have already booked their week for summer 2017 due to insufficient snow levels and a rapid decline of the Horstman Glacier. According to Ken, “in 2015 alone the glacier lost 35 vertical feet of ice,” and despite snowmaking capabilities that were recently installed to help curb the melting, the damage was irreversible.

Ken made his decision so he would not break his promise to provide a world class terrain park to the campers of Camp of Champions, something that has been harder to do over the past several seasons due to a combination of warmer temperatures and lower snowfall totals.

We will share more information as it becomes available, but losing an institution like Camp of Champions is certainly a sad day. Thank you Ken, for all you did for snowboarding.

Read Ken Achenbach’s truly heartfelt letter of apology below. If you are affected by the camp’s closure, you can reach out to Ken at info@campofchampions.com or by phone at 1-888-997-2267.
