Amtrak’s Winter Park Express will spin 27 round-trips between Denver’s Union Station and the Grand County ski area next ski season.

On the heels of its successful inaugural season earlier this year, Amtrak on Thursday announced the sale of 2018 tickets with some additions, including three Friday round-trips and reduced fares of $29 on some departures. The service begins Friday, Jan. 5 and run each Saturday and Sunday through March 25, with round-trips on Friday Feb. 2 and Friday, March 2. Denver businesses had asked Amtrak and Winter Park ski area for more trips for corporate events and the Friday service is designed to accommodate groups.

Each train can ferry more than 500 riders through the historic Moffat Tunnel, which exits in Grand County at the base of the ski area, which last year unveiled a new train platform adjacent to its slopeside village.

Adult tickets start at $29 each way and children ages 2-12 ride for half fare with a ticketed adult. Groups can book by calling 800-USA-1GRP for packages that include the train, skiing and lodging. Visit amtrak.com/winterparkexpress for tickets and information.
