Amid rising COVID-19 case numbers across the U.S. and countries in Europe locking down for a second time, the ways we move around—and the factors we consider when stepping outside our front doors—have changed greatly since this time last year. As a result, Google Maps is rolling out additional features to arm you with more health and safety information that can help you decide when and where to go, whether it’s to the grocery store or a town a few states away.
For those traveling out of state, the updated Google Maps now offers a COVID-19 case layer. The map layer shows how cases are trending over the last seven days (expect to see upward trends across the board right now), how many cases per 100,000 people are in a specific area, and the number of deaths from COVID-19. It will also link to local resources on what state- and city-specific restrictions are in place to help you prepare, should you decide to follow through with a visit.
