 Alterra to Acquire Solitude Mountain Resort. Alterra has entered into an agreement to purchase Solitude Mountain Resort in Utah, which would bring the company’s total to 13 destinations throughout North America, including CMH heli-skiing operation Canada. More. SAM

Powder Alliance Adds Monarch Mountain.  Colorado’s Monarch Mountain—one of the pioneers in season pass partnerships—has joined the Powder Alliance, becoming the 20th mountain resort to be a part of the reciprocal pass partnership. Located 20 miles west of Salida, Colo., Monarch Mountain averages 350 inches of natural snowfall a year. More. SAM

Longest Zip Line in USA Launches This Fall in Mammoth, CA | The 2,100-Vertical-Foot Mammoth Mega Zip. This fall, Mammoth Mountain, CA will introduce a mega 2,100 vertical-foot zip line, the steepest in North America.  Mammoth Mega Zip will run from the summit of the mountain down to Main Lodge. World’s Largest Indoor Ski Area Planned for Norway. Vinterparken, a new year-round indoor ski center planned for Norway, will be one of the largest in the world. The idea and need for the resort arose from the lack of consistency in the snowfall in this area of Norway. Construction has begun on the six-story, 40,000 square meter facility just east of Oslo in Lorenskog. More. Snowbrains

Sixty Year Old Italian Ski Mountaineer Edmond Joyeusaz Skis the Matterhorn. On May 25th, Italian Edmond Joyeusaz made a successful ski descent from the summit of the Matterhorn in sketchy snow conditions.
