Resorts Reopen Amid Easing Restrictions. Across the country, government officials are easing restrictions enacted to mitigate the spread of COVID-19, allowing many mountain resorts to resume operations. Alterra Mountain Co. Discounts Renewals for Ikon Pass Holders Whose Seasons Were Cut Short. Alterra Mountain Co. on Tuesday offered renewal discounts of as much as $200 on its Ikon passes following this year’s coronavirus-abbreviated season, making an effort to reach skiers who are seeking some sort of discounts after resorts shut down statewide one month ago. Vail Grants Refunds for 2020 Passes, Offers 2021 Guarantees. Vail Resorts (VR) is granting its 2019-20 season pass holders credits of at least 20 percent, and up to 80 percent if they weren’t able to use their passes at all. It is also offering free “Epic Coverage” for the 2020-21 season, which will provide cash refunds to passholders for certain resort closures, including for events like COVID-19, as well as refunds for job loss, illness, and other eligible personal events. Vail is also extending spring sales deadlines until Labor Day, giving people more time to buy at the best price. More. SAM

Powdr Launches Passholder Promise in Response to Pandemic. In response to COVID-19 impacts, Powdr has launched the Passholder Promise at Killington Resort in Vermont. The Promise provides 2019-20 season passholders with discounts on 2020-21 passes or K-Tickets, a refund guarantee and extended spring pricing on 2020-21 season passes, and a guarantee for the resort’s all-seasons subscription pass, Beast 365. New England Pass Launches Promise Program. After a winter cut short and looming uncertainties about the pandemic’s impact on next winter, the New England Pass—which includes Sunday River Resort, Sugarloaf, and Loon Mountain Resort—has unveiled the 2020-21 New England Pass Promise program for winter season passholders to provide peace of mind and confidence for skiing and snowboarding next winter. Timberline (OR) Reopened May 15. Following an executive order by Oregon Gov. Kate Brown specifically allowing several outdoor recreation activities to reopen, including the state’s ski areas, Timberline Lodge on Mt. Hood reopened for skiing and riding with modified operations on Friday, May 15. More. SAM

A Festival for Black Skiers in Idaho Became a Coronavirus Nightmare. As the annual gathering of the National Brotherhood of Skiers kicked off on March 1, few realized that 650 miles away, the country’s first reported death from the new coronavirus had just occurred near Seattle. How Corona virus Will Affect Ski Resorts Season. According to a model by the National Ski Areas Association (NSAA) with RRC Associates, the economic losses caused by COVID-19 are estimated at $2 billion. Doing Good – Metropolitan New York Ski Council. The council donated $10,000 to make 2,500 face shields for donation to New York area hospitals.
