Squaw Valley Invests $4 Million into New Equipment, Largest Ski Patrol Team in History, Navy SEAL Trainers, & The PACT Promise. Coming off a record 728″ snowfall winter, Squaw Valley-Alpine Meadows has invested $4 Million in new equipment and training to help improve the safety and efficiency of the mountain. New Chairlift for Mt. Hood Meadows’ 50th Anniversary Season. Oregon’s Mt. Hood Meadows will have a lot to celebrate this 50th anniversary season, with a new lift, day lodge remodel, two new snowcats and a remodeled Demo Center, along with other improvements. More. First Tracks!!

Angel Fire NM Adds Expert Run. Northern New Mexico’s Angel Fire Resort has announced they will offer a longer ski season, are making several mountain improvements, adding nighttime ski and snowboard lessons, and will be adding a new black diamond trail this winter. More. First Tracks!

Lake Tahoe’s Hideout Lodge Opens with Heli-Assisted Skiing & Snowboarding, Snowmobiling, Backcountry Adventures, & A Remote Location. This paradise is nestled deep in California’s El Dorado National Forest and is only accessible by foot, snowcat, snowmobile, and helicopter. The lodge received 700″ of snow last season and it’s looking like it could be another epic season for the area. More. Snowbrains

The Latest Trend in Skiing Is Renting Out the Entire Mountain. Private ski resorts are the new private jet. “Fresh powder is one of the rarest ­commodities in the world,” says Aaron Brill, co-owner of Silverton Mountain. There’s a reason you’ve never heard of the resort. The private ski club in southeastern Colorado limits access to 80 guests a day—unless someone buys out the mountain. More. Sale of Utah’s Deer Valley Resort Now Complete.  A newly formed entity controlled by affiliates of KSL Capital Partners, LLC and Henry Crown and Company recently announced the completion of their previously announced acquisition of Deer Valley Resort in Utah. The company, with Deer Valley Resort, also announced that Bob Wheaton will remain at Deer Valley Resort as president and chief operating officer. More. First Tracks!!

Former Owners Buy Back Mountain High. Southern California’s popular Mountain High ski resort has been sold by Ski Resort Holdings LLC, an affiliate of Oz Real Estate, to Mountain High Reunited (MHR). The MHR group includes Mountain High’s current president and CEO Karl Kapuscinski, its senior management team and MHR investors. MHR is essentially the same group that owned Mountain High in the mid-2000’s before selling it to CNL Lifestyle Properties. More. First Tracks!!

Snowbowl Owners Purchase Another Arizona Ski Area. The owners of Arizona Snowbowl near Flagstaff have announced their acquisition of the 37-acre Elk Ridge Ski Area near Williams. Plans announced for Elk Ridge, which first opened in the 1960s but has operated only sporadically in recent years, call for upgrades to surface lifts, installation of a chairlift, and expanded snow play, tubing and summer recreation options.
