Snow in the forecast for Northwest, Rockies, Northeast

Snow in the forecast for Northwest, Rockies, Northeast

Summary

Snowfall across the US and Canada is about to pick up as we close out October and enter November. First up will be the Northwest and Northeast as both regions will receive snow this weekend. Then next week, the storm over the Northwest will dive into the central Rockies with snow and cold air, and the storminess could hang around the Rockies through the first few days of November.

Short Term Forecast

It’s super fun to be talking about natural snow again, and this week’s highlight picture comes from northern New Hampshire where Wildcat measured 10 inches on Thursday.

As we look at the snow forecast for the end of this week and through the weekend of October 27-28, the map shows significant snow returning to the northwest (upper left) and another storm hitting the northeast (upper right).

The storm over the northeast could deliver anything from rain to significant snow depending on its eventual track, so check out each mountain’s forecast page for more details.

Looking further ahead to next week, the big change will be significant snow returning to the Rockies, including Montana, Idaho, Wyoming, Utah, Colorado, and New Mexico.

The map below shows the total snow from Thursday, October 25 through Monday, November 2. Much of the Rockies could see 6-12 inches during this storm cycle.

Extended Forecast

The outlook through early November hints at the likelihood that cooler-than-average air will hang around the eastern Rockies and into the Midwest. This might make snow possible across parts of Montana, Wyoming, and Colorado.

All of this snow is fun to discuss, but we’re still a little early in the season and a lot of the snow will melt or settle before most ski areas open. Let’s hope that we see additional storminess as we head into mid-November.

Thanks for reading and look for the next forecast on Monday, October 29.
