The Reel Deal: 2018’s Ski Movie Trailers
Ski movie season is coming! Watch all of the trailers and get the details about ski movie tours here.
It’s time to get excited about watching the best skiers in the world. Get your friends together, get tickets to all of these shows, and get stoked for skiing. Don’t see your town on the tour list? All flicks will be available for digital download in a few months, but we heard most of the companies throw in free stickers if you order a DVD.
Teton Gravity Research: Far Out
Based on the trailer, it looks like Teton Gravity Research (TGR) fans are in for another globetrotting adventure to mountains and near and far. Reminiscent of the 2015 feature Paradise Waits and 2006’s Anomaly, we’re looking forward to seeing all the crazy international and domestic skiing that the TGR crew found last season, including stops in British Columbia, Alaska, Slovenia, Albania, Russia, Jackson Hole, and Crested Butte. With one of the most stacked athlete rosters in the world, we can’t wait to see Sage Cattabriga-Alosa, Angel Collinson, Jeremy Jones, John Collinson, Hadley Hammer, Griffin Post, Elyse Saugstad, Thayne Rich, Sam Smoothy, Ian McIntosh, Nick McNutt and more shred big lines on the big screen. You can find the tour details for TGR’s Far Out here.
Level 1 Productions: Zig Zag
Denver, Colo.-based Level 1 Productions has been making movies for nearly two decades, and yet they remain one of the most creative companies in all of skiing. Their latest offering, Zig Zag, promises to once again turn skiing on its head with a soundtrack of bands you’ve never heard of but likely to add to your own playlist this season. This year, their feature film travels around North America, Scandinavia, and a few stops in Switzerland, Russia, and Japan to keep things interesting. Starring Parker White, Chris Logan, Will Berman, Keegan Kilbride, Will Wesson, Thayne Rich, KC Deane, LJ Strenio, Kim Boberg, Tanner Rainville, Duncan Adams, Ahmet Dadali, McRae Williams, and Wiley Miller, this creative ski film is sure to put to get you pumped for the season. You can find the tour details for Zig Zag here.
Matchstick Productions: ALL IN
Matchstick Productions (MSP) is mixing things up this year by featuring as many female athletes as male, which is a progressive step forward from the company that used to for years only have one or two token women skiers in their movies. What might be even more noticeable is that the roster list includes siblings John and Angel Collinson, longtime staples in rival TGR’s films, as well as Tatum Monod, who has risen quickly to the top of the female pro skier ranks (and was featured on the cover of SKI’s November 2017 issue). All things considered, we’re expecting more exciting ski action from MSP and perhaps a few more fart jokes à la 2017’s Drop Everything. Shot on location in British Columbia, Alaska, Utah, Washington, Japan and South America. Other athletes include Michelle Parker, Elyse Saugstad, Mark Abma, Wiley Miller, and Cody Townsend. Tour details will be announced on MSP’s website soon.
Matchstick Productions: HOJI
Canadian pro skier Eric Hjorleifson, or Hoji for short, has officially reached “legend” status with a feature-length ski movie focused entirely on his years skiing with Matchstick Productions (MSP). The only other athletes who have had this honor included the late Shane McConkey (2001’s There’s Something About McConkey and 2013’s McConkey) and big mountain legend Seth Morrison (2002’s The Seth Morrison Chronicles), so it’s a pretty big deal. Throw in the fact that Hoji has a ground-breaking new ski boot collaboration with Dyanfit coming out this season and is still one of the best freeskiers on the planet, and all we can say is that this flick is well deserved and going to be awesome. Besides Eric Hjorleifson, HOJI will feature Chris Rubens, James Heim and more.
